By late November most of my flowerbeds are dormant, with the dead stems providing winter shelter for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, and the seed heads nourishing birds. This Black-eyed Susan was persevering through the colder temperatures and I found it resting on a log on the border of the flowerbed.
